City of Madison Bike/Ped Facilities Bike Ride

Description:

A bike tour of bike/ped and green infrastructure projects in Madison with the people who designed them. Visit more than 20 facilities including trails/paths, cycle tracks, bike lanes, bike signals, bike boxes, traffic calming techniques and more. City staff will discuss key components and considerations of design, challenges, public input, and construction. Good for beginners but must be comfortable bicycling on city roads. There may be short segments of steep grades on street. Attendees will meet out front of Monona Terrace Convention Center for the start of the field trip (which is also where the field trip will end (front entrance on W Wilson Street, at the end of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.).

PLEASE NOTE: Times noted included transportation to and from location noted above. Start time is when transportation intends to depart and the end time is when attendees are expected to arrive back by. Please arrive at requested location 15 minutes before start time to check-in.

  • Evaluate different types of pedestrian and bicycle facilities and their pros and cons.

  • Discuss appropriate ped/bike solutions for different types of roadway crossings.
