This two-day classroom workshop is designed to teach the basics of user experience (UX) with the goal of integrating it into the global thinking of trail building, from planning to execution.
User experience is widely used in technology and product design to assess how users think and feel. Design with empathy engages the context of use, environment and land manager realities. This way to design may change the overall benefits of the project (assessment, management, training, profits). Learn how to apply UX design concepts and its focus on user experience to your next trail project.
Through a number of activities, the participants will learn the concept of UX applied to personas conception, market positioning, outdoor-oriented Business Model Canvas, value-driven proposals, and more. Those components will be presented in case studies and scenarios.

Jérôme Pelland, Sentiers Boréals (PTBA member) and Baere Outdoor Experience Creators
Jérôme Pelland is a pioneer in mountain biking and outdoor destination design. Founder of Québec’s mountain biking association in 2004, he later launched Sentiers Boréals in 2010, specializing in trail design and construction. In 2024, he created Bære - Outdoor Experience Creators, focusing on immersive, sustainable outdoor experiences. With over 550 projects in many countries, he's he has published over 40 guides, books and articles on his expertise. Holding certifications from the PTBA and Parks Canada, Jérôme combines technical mastery with innovative service design, making him a leader in creating exceptional outdoor experiences.
Roxanne Tétreault, B6 DOUZE
Roxanne Tétreault is an accomplished Service Design strategist with over a decade of experience empowering organizations through innovation and collaboration. Drawing on four years of hands-on technical experience in the construction industry with Sentiers Boréals, she excels at integrating Design Thinking methodologies to co-create impactful solutions and drive strategic transformations. Her work spans diverse sectors, where she has led dynamic workshops, public consultations, and master plans with a focus on human-centered approaches and sustainable growth. Renowned for her creativity, leadership, and ability to connect with multidisciplinary teams, Roxanne inspires innovation by unlocking the potential within individuals and organizations alike.
